Calif. Market Close: Tax-Exempts Finish Slightly Weaker
NEW YORK – The California municipal market was weaker by one or two basis points today, mostly holding off a sell-off in the Treasury market prompted by concern over whether or not the government will intervene to shore up confidence in troubled Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Market Post: Munis Slightly Firmer in Afternoon Trade
The municipal market was slightly weaker this afternoon.
“We’re off a smidge, but not as much as Treasuries, they’ve got the hammerlock on them right now,” a trader in Chicago said. “We got decoupled from Treasuries a bit back, and got cheaper and cheaper, so now if they’re off, we’re not going to be off as much.”

Market Post: Munis Slightly Firmer in Morning Trade
The municipal market was slightly firmer this morning.
“The market’s a lit bit firmer,” a trader in New York said. “For the state GOs and high-grade paper, it’s definitely firmer. For stuff like Ambac- and MBIA-wrapped paper, it’s a different story.”
